Yoga for Athletes offers yoga-based functional movement and injury prevention strategies for amateur and professional athletes. We also deliver mindfulness and wellbeing programmes to help athletes manage the challenges of everyday life.

We take a person-centred approach to functional mobility training. Athletes are screened to identify restrictions which may predispose them to injury. Training programmes focus on strengthening and stabilising from the inside out, with deep abdominal breathing techniques and yoga-based movements and postures designed to relieve tension, improve postural alignment and restore healthy movement patterns.

Moving through specific postures in correct alignment can, in time, correct instability and dysfunctional movement patterns caused by over or under used muscles. Activating and inhibiting different muscle groups can relieve tension and improve mobility. Joints are stabilised by strengthening the supporting muscles, tendons and ligaments.

By focusing on breath in relation to movement, athletes learn how to stabilise, relieve tension and manipulate their bodies to move in the best possible way. Deep, relaxed breathing can reduce anxiety and improve mental focus by calming the mind and soothing the nervous system. All sequences end with a period of progressive muscle relaxation and simple mindful meditation.
